Raised in Boston, Donna Bottari grew up in a suburban neighborhood. Her Italian immigrant parents had left the sunny island of Sicily for typical Boston weather: snow and ice, Red Sox, and a shot at the American dream.

Donna's first language with Italian (Sicilian dialect, no less). She leanred English without the Boston accent in school. In the summers, Donna grew up speaking Italian (and Sicilian dialect) at home, English (no Bhaston accent) in school. Every summer she she spent time in a small town perched high in the Eastern hills of Sicily. Sipping on lemon granita with sticky sweet brioches in the morning, she sang Italian songs as her grandfather played the accordion in the evening.

Donna grew up with an appreciation of culture, both her American one and her Sicilian background.

When Massimon, her first nephew was born, she wanted him to experience the best. Not just what Boston could give to him, but the rest of the world as well. Trying to buy gifts for Massimo yielded no results. At this point, Donna decided to start an in-depth search for something as singular as he is.
