Delicate Tomboy is more than just the name of a clothing company. In college, where Emily studied graphic design, typography and fashion history, a professor gave her the nickname “Delicate Tomboy.” The phrase seemed to describe her personality to a tee (no pun intended), and the name stuck. When she started making tee shirts, she knew Delicate Tomboy was the only option for the name of her label.

Emily's love of tee shirts drove her new line. After she broke up with a boyfriend, she realized she had a great outlet to vent. Her natural reaction was to let the whole world know the truth, so she created a shirt to share the lesson she had learned. She took a fresh new tee and ironed on these 30 letters: “never date a guy who has a twin sister.”

She wore the shirt all over New York City, and although most people didn't get it, almost everyone had a reaction. Delicate Tomboy tees were born!
